Love to dance? Love to meet new people? Love a great social outing? Love having fun? Trying to fit exercise into your busy schedule? Then modern Square dancing is possibly the answer to all your aspirations – but I must warn you, it’s addictive, so once you start, you’ll be hooked!
Square Dancing is a dance for four couples (eight dancers) arranged in a square, with one couple on each side, facing the middle of the square. There may be many squares on the floor, but each square is separate meaning that every square works together as a team on the floor, but is separate from the others. There are no set sequences to memorise, just different actions to take when cued live by the caller making for different dances every time, all to contemporary music in a very welcoming, casual environment. A typical dance evening consists of several dance ‘brackets’ which last about ten minutes each with breaks in between – at this point you can have a rest or continue to square dance, the choice is yours.
